ramus posterior nervi spinalis
- ramus posterior nervi spinalis
- [TA] posterior branch of spinal nerve: the posterior and usually smaller of the two branches into which each spinal nerve divides almost as soon as it emerges from the intervertebral foramen; the posterior branches supply the skin, muscles, joints, and bone of the posterior part of the neck and trunk. Most of these branches further subdivide into a medial and a lateral portion.
Posterior (ramus posterior nervi cervicalis) and anterior (ramus anterior nervi cervicalis) branches of the fifth cervical nerve, the nerve itself forming from the union of ventral and dorsal nerve roots, just distal to the ganglion on the dorsal root, within the intervertebral foramen.
