- [TA] intracranial part of vertebral artery: the fourth part of the artery; it pierces the dura and arachnoid mater and ascends anterior to the hypoglossal roots and then medially in front of the medulla oblongata where, at about the lower border of the pons, it joins the opposite artery to form the basilar artery.
