- anterior operculum syndrome intermittent or persistent loss of voluntary movements of the muscles of the lower face, throat, jaw, and tongue, characterized by dysarthria, sialorrhea, and dysphagia, and caused by bilateral lesions of the frontoparietal operculum. It most commonly results from sequential bilateral opercular strokes; other causes include congenital anomalies, epilepsy, and infection. Called also Foix-Chavany-Marie s.
