segments of posterior cerebral artery

segments of posterior cerebral artery
the four segments into which the posterior cerebral artery is divided; P1–P4. The P1 segment is the precommunicating part (pars precommunicalis), which begins at the bifurcation of the basilar artery and runs to the junction with the posterior communicating artery; P2 is the postcommunicating part (pars postcommunicalis), which extends from there to the temporal branches; P3 is the lateral occipital artery (arteria occipitalis lateralis); giving rise to the temporal branches; and P4 is the medial occipital artery (arteria occipitalis medialis), giving rise to the parietooccipital and calcarine branches.
