receptor protein serine/threonine kinase
- receptor protein serine/threonine kinase
- re·cep·tor pro·tein ser·ine/thre·o·nine ki·nase (re-sepґtər proґtēn sērґēn threґo-nēn kiґnās) [EC 2.7.11.30] a group comprising those protein-serine/threonine kinases with a transmembrane domain. Each occurs as a pair of different subunits, with each subunit having a cytoplasmic kinase domain. When brought together by binding their dimeric protein ligands (e.g., transforming growth factorβ, activins, inhibins, bone morphogenetic proteins), the subunits act together to initiate signaling cascades by activating cytoplasmic transcription factors that regulate genes required for control of cellular proliferation and differentiation. Cf. non-specific serine/threonine protein kinase.
