Rathke pouch

Rathke pouch
a diverticulum from the ectodermal roof of the stomodeum of the embryo that lies adjacent to the floor of the diencephalon; from it the adenohypophysis is developed. Its lumen persists in adults as small colloid-filled cysts and clefts at the juncture of the pars distalis and the neurohypophysis. Called also adenohypophysial,craniobuccal, craniopharyngeal, or hypophysial p.
