[phosphorylase] phosphatase
- [phosphorylase] phosphatase
- [phos·phor·y·lase] phos·pha·tase (fos-forґə-lās fosґfə-tās″) [EC 3.1.3.17] an enzyme of the hydrolase class that catalyzes the cleavage of a phosphoryl group from (active) glycogen phosphorylase a to form (inactive) phosphorylase b; the reaction is part of the mechanism of regulation of glycogenolysis. Recently, this enzyme has been considered to be an activity of the more general enzyme protein phosphatase 1.
