- phosphatidylcholine–sterol O-acyltransferase
- phos·pha·ti·dyl·cho·line–ster·ol O-ac·yl·trans·fer·ase (fos″fə-ti″dəl-koґlēn sterґol a″səl-transґfər-ās) [EC 2.3.1.43] an enzyme of the transferase class, secreted by the liver, that catalyzes the formation of cholesteryl esters in high-density lipoproteins by transferring long-chain fatty acid residues from phosphatidylcholine to a sterol. The reaction is a step in the synthesis of lipoproteins. Deficiency of the enzyme, an autosomal recessive trait, is called lecithin–cholesterol acyltransferase (LCAT) deficiency. Called also lecithin–cholesterol acyltransferase.
