hydroxymethylglutaryl-CoA synthase
- hydroxymethylglutaryl-CoA synthase
- hy·droxy·meth·yl·glu·ta·ryl-CoA syn·thase (hi-drok″se-meth″əl-glooґtə-rəl ko-aґ sinґthās) [EC 2.3.3.10] an enzyme of the transferase class that catalyzes the condensation of acetyl coenzyme A and acetoacetyl coenzyme A to form 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl CoA. A liver and kidney mitochondrial enzyme catalyzes the reaction as a step in ketogenesis; a cytosolic enzyme acts in the synthesis of cholesterol and other isoprenoids.
