hydroperoxyeicosatetraenoic acid
- hydroperoxyeicosatetraenoic acid
- (HPETE) hy·dro·per·oxy·ei·co·sa·tet·ra·eno·ic ac·id (HPETE) (hi″dro-pər-ok″se-i-ko″sə-tet″rə-e-noґik) any of several arachidonic acid metabolites produced by the actions of lipoxygenases. 5-HPETE (5-hydroperoxy-6,8,11,14-eicosatetraenoic acid) is the precursor of the leukotrienes. 12-HPETE (12-hydroperoxy-5,8,10,14-eicosatetraenoic acid) is the precursor of 12-HETE, which is chemotactic for neutrophils and eosinophils. 15-HPETE is the precursor of 15-HETE and of lipoxins.
