arachidonate 12-lipoxygenase
- arachidonate 12-lipoxygenase
- arach·i·don·ate 12-lip·oxy·gen·ase (ə-rakґĭ-don″āt lĭ-pokґsə-jən-ās) [EC 1.13.11.31] an enzyme of the oxidoreductase class that catalyzes the oxidation of arachidonate at the 12 position to form 12-hydroperoxyeicosatetraenoic acid (12-HPETE). The reaction occurs primarily in platelets and is the first step of the lipoxygenase pathway for conversion of arachidonic acid to the leukotriene 12-hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid (12-HETE).
