nuchal thickness scanning
- nuchal thickness scanning
an ultrasound screening test performed during pregnancy at 10-14 weeks of gestation that looks specifically at the thickness of the skin at the back of the neck (
the nuchal fold) of the fetus as an aid to the prenatal diagnosis of chromosomal defects. The thicker the nuchal fold, the higher the risk of the baby having a chromosomal defect.
