sodium citrate n a crystalline salt C6H5Na3O7 used chiefly as an expectorant, a systemic and urinary alkalizer, a chelator to increase urinary excretion of calcium in hypercalcemia and lead in lead poisoning, and in combination as an anticoagulant (as in stored blood)

[USP] the trisodium salt of citric acid, used as an anticoagulant for blood or plasma that is to be fractionated or for blood that is to be stored. It is also administered orally as a urinary alkalizer.
