sar·co·cyst (sahrґko-sist) [sarco- + cyst] 1. a protozoan of the genus Sarcocystis. 2. one of the elongated, cylindrical, membrane-bound hyaline bodies of the protozoan Sarcocystis, containing the trophozoites known as Rainey corpuscles; they are found in the muscles of individuals with sarcocystosis.
