a drug (see beta blocker) used to treat abnormal heart rhythm, angina, and high blood pressure and also taken to relieve anxiety. It is administered by mouth or injection; common side-effects include digestive upsets, insomnia, and lassitude. Trade name: Inderal.

pro·pran·o·lol (pro-pranґə-lol) a nonselective beta-adrenergic blocking agent that lacks intrinsic sympathomimetic activity, decreases cardiac rate and output, reduces blood pressure, and is effective in the prophylaxis of migraine.
