An adrenergic β-receptor blocking agent; used in the treatment of angina pectoris, hypertension, cardiac arrhythmias, and other conditions.

[USP] the hydrochloride salt of propranolol, used as an antiarrhythmic, antianginal, antihypertensive, and antitremor agent, in the management of hypertrophic subaortic stenosis, and in conjunction with an alpha-adrenergic blocking agent in the symptomatic treatment of inoperable pheochromocytoma. It is also used to prevent migraine and to treat myocardial infarction and prevent its recurrence. Administered orally or intravenously.
