either of the paired ducts that form adjacent to the mesonephric ducts (see mesonephros) in the embryo. In the female these ducts develop into the Fallopian tubes, uterus, and part of the vagina. However, in the male they degenerate almost completely.

either of the paired embryonic ducts arising as a peritoneal pocket, extending caudally to join the urogenital sinus; in the female it develops into the uterine tubes and uterus and in the male it degenerates, leaving vestigial structures such as the appendix testis and utriculus prostaticus. Called also d. of MÑŒller, mÑŒllerian d., and primordial d.
