Mar·su·pi·a·lia (mahr-soo″pe-aґle-ə) an order of the class Mammalia characterized by possession of a marsupium where the young, which are born in an underdeveloped state, are carried and nourished until their development is complete. In some systems of classification, it is considered to be an order of the infraclass or subclass Metatheria. It includes the opossums, kangaroos, wallabies, koalas, and wombats.
