(EEE) a form of equine encephalomyelitis that occurs in the eastern half of the United States and Canada, Mexico, and various other parts of the Americas. In humans it affects mainly children and the elderly; symptoms are fever, headache, and nausea followed by drowsiness, convulsions, and coma. Mortality is high in both humans and horses.
