biologic false-positive n a positive serological reaction for syphilis given by blood of a person who does not have syphilis

(BFP) a false positive result on a serologic test. Acute BFP is usually associated with an infectious disease such as bacterial pneumonia, mycoplasma pneumonias, subacute bacterial endocarditis, varicella, infectious mononucleosis, or scarlet fever. Chronic BFP is usually associated with immune complex diseases, systemic lupus erythematosus, and leprosy.
