[USP] aromatic spirit of ammonia a preparation compounded of ammonium carbonate, strong ammonia solution, lemon oil, lavender oil, nutmeg oil, alcohol, and purified water; used as a respiratory stimulant in syncope, weakness, or threatened faint. In veterinary medicine, it is used as a respiratory and circulatory stimulant, and sometimes as a carminative and antacid.
