A dimeric alkaloid obtained from Vinca rosea; its antineoplastic activity is similar to that of vinblastine, but no cross-resistance develops between these two agents, and it is more useful than vinblastine in lymphocytic lymphosarcoma and acute leukemia. SYN: leurocristine.

vin·cris·tine sul·fate (vin-krisґtēn) [USP] the sulfate salt of a vinca alkaloid, used as an antineoplastic agent, primarily as a component of combination chemotherapy regimens for Hodgkin disease, acute lymphoblastic leukemia, and non-Hodgkin lymphomas, as well as in the treatment of other neoplastic disorders including Wilms tumor, neuroblastoma, AIDS-associated Kaposi sarcoma, and rhabdomyosarcoma. Administered intravenously.
