poly·ri·bo·nu·cleo·tide nu·cleo·ti·dyl·trans·fer·ase (pol″e-ri″bo-nooґkle-o-tīd noo″kle-o-tiґdəl transґfər-ās) [EC 2.7.7.8] an enzyme of the transferase class that catalyzes the reversible phosphorolysis of RNA molecules or other polyribonucleotides to yield nucleoside diphosphate residues. The bacterial enzyme was used in research elucidating the genetic code. Called also polynucleotide phosphorylase.
