A potent antagonist of endorphins and narcotics, including pentazocine; devoid of pharmacologic action when administered without narcotics.

nal·ox·one hy·dro·chlo·ride (nal-okґsōn) an opioid antagonist structurally related to oxymorphone, used in the diagnosis and treatment of opioid toxicity, to reverse opioid-induced respiratory depression, and as an adjunct in the treatment of hypotension associated with septic shock; administered parenterally.
