MALT·oma (mawl-toґmə) a form of extranodal marginal zone lymphoma originating in mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue, particularly that of the gastrointestinal tract; other sites include the larynx, salivary glands, thyroid gland, and lung. It is characterized by small lymphocytes, marginal zone B cells, monocytoid B cells, and plasma cells. Tumors are generally localized and indolent, but may spread or become more aggressive.
