kyn·u·ren·i·nase (kīn″u-renґĭ-nās) [EC 3.7.1.3] an enzyme of the hydrolase class that catalyzes the cleavage of hydroxykynurenine to hydroxyanthranilic acid and alanine as a step in the metabolism of tryptophan; kynurenine is also a substrate. The enzyme is a pyridoxal phosphate protein, so enzyme activity is reduced in vitamin B6 deficiency.
