1. In dentistry, a prefabricated restoration sealed in the cavity with cement. 2. A graft of bone into a bone cavity. 3. A graft of skin into a wound cavity for epithelialization. 4. In orthopedics, an orthomechanical device inserted into a shoe; commonly called an “arch support.”

1. a substance or piece of tissue placed within a tissue, generally to replace a defect. For example, a bone graft may be inlaid into an area of missing or damaged bone, or an aortic prosthesis placed using an inlay technique within an aneurysm.
2. (in dentistry) a rigid restoration inserted into a tapered cavity in a tooth. It is held in place with a cement lute. While cast gold has been the most widely used material, porcelain and composite resin are also used.
