dynorphin
An endogenous opioid ligand that acts as an agonist at opiate receptors. Extremely potent, widely distributed neuropeptide that has 17 amino acid residues and contains leu5-enkephalin as its NH2-terminal sequence.

dy·nor·phin (di-norґfin) [dynamo- + morphine] any of a family of opioid peptides found throughout the central and peripheral nervous systems; most are agonists at opioid receptor sites. Some are probably involved in pain regulation at the levels of the spinal cord and medulla and others may aid hypothalamic regulation of eating and drinking. See also endorphin and enkephalin.
