- A zoonosis that requires more than one vertebrate host (but no invertebrate) for completion of the life cycle; e.g., various taenioid cestodes such as Taenia saginata and T. solium in which humans are an obligatory host; hydatid disease, a c. in which humans are not obligatory host.
