urocanate hydratase

urocanate hydratase
uro·can·ate hy·dra·tase (u″ro-kanґāt hyґdrə-tās) [EC 4.2.1.49] an enzyme of the lyase class that catalyzes the reduction of urocanate to formiminoglutamate, a step in the catabolism of histidine. Deficiency of the enzyme, presumed to be an autosomal recessive trait, causes urocanase deficiency. Called also urocanase.
