granular cell tumor

granular cell tumor
a common, usually benign neoplasm whose cells have a granular appearance and are thought to derive from Schwann cells. It may be found anywhere in the body, but most often in the oral cavity, especially the tongue; sometimes there are multiple tumors. It was formerly called granular cell myoblastoma because it was thought to be derived from muscle cells. Called also Abrikosov t. and granular cell schwannoma. See also congenital epulis, under epulis.
