HÑŒrthle cell tumor
a new growth of the thyroid gland composed wholly or predominantly of large cells (HÑŒrthle, or Askanazy, cells) that have abundant granular, eosinophilic cytoplasm. Such tumors are usually benign (HÑŒrthle cell adenoma) but on occasion may be locally invasive or may metastasize (HÑŒrthle cell carcinoma or malignant HÑŒrthle cell tumor). Called also oxyphil cell t.
