- Trypanosoma brucei gambiense
- a polymorphic subspecies of T. brucei that causes West African trypanosomiasis and is transmitted by the bite of infected tsetse flies, chiefly Glossina palpalis, G. tachinoides, and G. fuscipes. Humans are the only important reservoir. Called also T. gambiense, T. hominis, and T. ugandense.
