Trypanosoma brucei rhodesiense
- Trypanosoma brucei rhodesiense
- a polymorphic subspecies of T. brucei that causes East African trypanosomiasis and is transmitted by the bite of infected tsetse flies, chiefly Glossina morsitans, G. pallidipes, and G. swynnertoni. The most important reservoirs are types of antelopes; domestic animals, particularly cattle, may also serve as reservoirs. Transmission to humans is usually via these animals, although infection between humans is also possible. Called also T. rhodesiense.
