An inhibitor of the renal dipeptidase, dehydropeptidase 1, used, in conjunction with antibiotics subject to metabolism in the kidneys, to increase therapeutic response to the antibiotic.

cil·a·sta·tin so·di·um (si″lə-statґin) a renal dipeptidase inhibitor that blocks the metabolism of imipenem; used in combination with imipenem to increase urinary levels of imipenem. The official preparation is sterile cilastatin sodium [USP].
