(for female factor infertility) the patient's blood levels of follicle-stimulating hormone are measured on the third day of her menstrual cycle and she takes clomiphene citrate on days 5 through 9. If her levels of follicle-stimulating hormone are elevated on day 10, she probably has a diminished ovarian reserve.
