succinate-semialdehyde dehydrogenase

succinate-semialdehyde dehydrogenase
suc·ci·nate-semi·al·de·hyde de·hy·dro·gen·ase (sukґsĭ-nāt sem″e-alґdə-hīd de-hiґdro-jən-ās) [EC 1.2.1.24] an enzyme of the oxidoreductase class that catalyzes the oxidation of γ-hydroxybutyric acid to succinate. The reaction is the final step in the inactivation of γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA); when enzyme activity is deficient, increased levels of GABA and γ-hydroxybutyric acid can be detected in urine, plasma, and cerebrospinal fluid.
