viridans streptococci

viridans streptococci
in one classification, a group of streptococci other than S. pneumoniae, usually α-hemolytic but sometimes nonhemolytic; some are part of the normal flora of the respiratory tract, and some can cause dental caries, bacterial endocarditis, and various disorders in immunocompromised persons.
