stratum nervosum retinae

stratum nervosum retinae
[TA] neural layer of retina: the internal, transparent, light-sensitive portion of the optic nerve part of the retina (cf. s. pigmentosum retinae), comprising nine layers seen by light microscopy, named from within outward: internal limiting membrane, nerve fiber layer, ganglion cell layer, inner plexiform layer, inner nuclear layer, outer plexiform layer, outer nuclear layer, outer limiting membrane, and layer of rods and cones; the various layers are connected transversely by fibers of connective tissue (MÑŒller fibers). See illustration at retina.
