nerve fiber layer of retina
a layer of the stratum nervosum retinae, situated between the ganglion cell layer and the internal limiting membrane, consisting essentially of the axons of the ganglion cells which pass through the lamina cribrosa to form the optic nerve. In official terminology, called stratum neurofibrarum retinae [TA]. See illustration at retina.
