Src tyrosine kinase

Src tyrosine kinase
Src ty·ro·sine ki·nase (sahrk tiґro-sēn kiґnās) a family of related non-specific protein-tyrosine kinases, the prototype of which is the protein encoded by the SRC proto-oncogene; they are highly conserved, act as cellular switches for growth and differentiation, and are themselves controlled by phosphorylation. They are normally kept in the inactive state by regulatory segments that cover the active site of the protein; mutations that alter protein activity have been associated with various forms of cancer, including small-cell lung, colon, and breast carcinomas, neuroblastoma, and rhabdomyosarcoma.
