small interfering RNA

small interfering RNA
(siRNA) any of a number of small (about 22 nucleotides), double-stranded RNA molecules that are incorporated (with one strand being discarded) into RNA-induced silencing complexes, which they guide to complementary messenger RNA sequences where they induce degradation during the process of RNA interference.
