nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy

nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy
a type of diabetic retinopathy usually seen in the early stages of the condition, characterized by progression of microaneurysms, punctate hemorrhages within the retina, yellow exudates, cotton-wool spots, and sometimes macular edema that can compromise vision. Called also background diabetic r.
