necrotic pulp
nonvital pulp dental pulp that has been deprived of its blood and nerve supply and is no longer composed of living tissue; there may or may not be bacterial invasion. Necrosis is evidenced by insensitivity to stimulation by electricity, heat, cold, or trauma. Called also dead p. and devitalized p. See also gangrenous pulp necrosis, under necrosis.
