protectin

protectin
pro·tec·tin (pro-tekґtin) a membrane-bound protein, CD59, present in many types of cells; it binds homologous complement factors C8 and C9 and prevents insertion of the membrane attack complex into the membrane, thereby protecting normal bystander cells from lysis after complement activation in nearby bacteria or immune complexes. Called also membrane inhibitor of reactive lysis.
