prav·a·stat·in so·di·um (pravґə-stat″in) an antihyperlipidemic agent that is an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor, used to lower blood lipid levels in the treatment of hypercholesterolemia and other forms of dyslipidemia and to reduce the risk of morbidity and mortality associated with atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease; administered orally.
