period of ventricular filling
- period of ventricular filling
- in the cardiac cycle, the interval in diastole lasting from atrioventricular valve opening to the start of ventricular contraction and valve closure, during which the ventricular blood volume increases and the pressure drops. The interval is frequently divided into an initial rapid phase of filling and a subsequent slowed phase (diastasis). See also illustration at cardiac cycle, under cycle.
