1. acute pancreatitis in which the autolysis of pancreatic tissue disrupts pancreatic microcirculation, resulting in hemorrhage into the parenchyma and surrounding tissues. Blood staining of the lateral abdominal wall (Turner sign) or periumbilical area (Cullen sign) may result. 2. acute necrotizing p. (def. 2).
