hemal nodes

hemal nodes
nodes found in certain mammals, especially ruminants, having a rich content of erythrocytes within sinuses and an organization much like a lymph node but with no lymphatic supply. They are located near the spleen, the kidney, and large blood vessels along the ventral side of the vertebrae, and their functions are probably like those of the spleen. A special type (hemolymph nodes) are found in the pig. The presence of hemal nodes in humans is doubtful. Called also hemal glands, hemolymph n's, and vascular glands.
