salt-losing nephropathy
any intrinsic renal disease causing salt wasting; it usually affects the renal medulla (e.g., medullary cystic disease, polycystic kidney disease, pyelonephritis), resulting in volume depletion and hypotension. See also salt-losing syndrome, under syndrome. Called also salt-losing nephritis and Thorn syndrome.
